Dale Lewis, who spent the first five seasons as the club’s President, will now be behind the bench as the team’s assistant coach when the puck is dropped for the Oil Caps’ sixth season.
Lewis is no stranger to coaching, having spent time behind the bench with head coach and GM Troy Leslie several years ago with the Manitoba AAA midget Southwest Cougars.
“I’m excited to be moving from the board room and back to coaching with Troy again,” said Lewis, a former MJHL player himself. “He’s a great tactician and teacher of the game and I feel I’m a players’ coach. I’m looking forward to getting going at camp.”
Leslie couldn’t agree more.
“I look forward to working with Dale in this capacity again. Because we’ve worked together in the past, it’ll make for an easy transition. Dale is passionate about the game and the players in our organization.”
“Troy and Dale have talked about this idea to work together behind the bench since last season. They complement each other well from their past experiences and will work well together. We look forward to having Dale come on board in a new capacity in a coaching role with the organization,” said Jamie Hodson, Director or Business and Hockey Operations for the organization.
The Oil Capitals kick off their exhibition season on Tuesday, Sept. 5 when they travel to Portage to take on the Terriers. The club’s regular season begins on Friday, Sept. 22 at home against the Dauphin Kings.
