MJHL TURNBULL CUP FINALS & THANK YOU’S

Unfortunately, an Oil Caps season many fans won’t soon forget ended Saturday night at the TG Smith Centre in Steinbach.

The Oil Caps started round one against the OCN Blizzard where the Caps took the series 4-2 sending the Caps to the MJHL Playoffs Round 2 where they played the Portage Terriers. In round two the Caps lost their first 2 games against the Terriers before turning it around where they won 2 games to tie up the series. They lost game 5 and then won games 6 and 7 taking the victory of round 2.

The Caps ended up in the MJHL Turnbull Cup Finals against the Steinbach Pistons where the Virden Oil Capitals fell to the Pistons.

It was a hard-fought series; however, the Pistons came out on top in game five, defeating the Caps 3-0. The Pistons won the best-of-seven series 4-1 and are this year’s MJHL Champs.

The Pistons scored 2 of their three goals in the first period. The first goal was scored at the 9:54 mark by Travis Hensrud and the second 3 minutes later by Ty Paisley.

The second period saw no goals and the Piston’s 3rd and final goal of the night was at 16:52 in the third by Kirk Mullen.

The Virden Oil Capitals organization would like to send many thanks out to all of our dedicated fans, amazing volunteers, phenomenal Billet Families, and Partners for all that they’ve done this past hockey season!

We would like to say a big thank you to the Elementary schools for all of their continued support throughout the playoff season and a special thank you to Goulter Elementary! We appreciated all of the chants, send-offs, and visits to the rink to cheer us on!
