Oil Caps Continue to Make Advances With Additions Of Lycar and Picard

Virden, MB – The Virden Oil Capitals continue to make  moves, completing a trade that brings them another goal scorer Kirklan Lycar (97) and gritty forward Kelby Picard (97) from the Portage Terriers in exchange for forward, Turner Santin (97)

Virden Oil Capitals Director of Player Personnel/ Assistant General Manager, Chad Leslie said, “We are very excited to be able to add these two players to our roster. We feel that we have upgraded our team, added some much-needed scoring and character.”

Lycar a 6’0’ forward from Elma, Manitoba played last season with the Dauphin Kings, scoring 24 goals and had 30 assists for 54 points with 6PIMS. This year he played in 5 games for the Dauphin Kings, earning 5 points (3G, 2A) before he was traded to the Portage Terriers. He played in 10 games for the Portage Terriers getting 10 points (4G, 6A).  Virden Oil Capitals Head Coach & General Manager, Troy Leslie said, “Kirklan is a guy who is very creative in the offensive zone, sees the ice very well and gives us another goal scorer. He handles the puck well in small spaces and is another asset on an already good power play.”

Picard, a 6’0” forward from Beausejour, Manitoba played last season with the Dauphin Kings, scoring 3 goals and had 4 assists for 7 points with 104 PIMS. This year he played 5 games with the Kings, registering 1 point (1A) and had 16 PIMS before he was traded to the Portage Terriers. He played 17 games with the Terriers this year, earning 4 points (4A) and had 41 PIMS.  Leslie said, “Kelby is a great team player who will add grit and energy.”

Santin, a Thunder Bay Ontario product, was in his first season with the Virden Oil Capitals after acquiring him from the Soo Thunderbirds of the NOJHL.  He played 24 games as an Oil Capital, registering 5 points (1G, 4A) and had 78 PIMS.  Last season Turner played for the Portage Terriers, earning 13 points (4G, 9A) in 47 games and had 118 PIMS.
