Several Oil Caps to take part in SJHL/MJHL Player Showcase

Several members of the Virden Oil Capitals will be featured in the upcoming MJHL/SJHL Showcase.

The upcoming event, slated to take place Jan. 15-16 at the Co-operators Centre in Regina, will feature the top 60 college-eligible players from each league as chosen by the respective coaches from the three teams: Team Garbutt, which is made up of players born in 1999, 2000 and 2001, as well as Team Zajac and Team Belfour, both squads are made up of players born in 1997 and 1998. Each team in the event will play two games.

Team Garbutt includes Oil Caps blueliners Justin Lee and Jayden Wojciechowski, along with forward Kolton Kanaski. Team Zajac will include forwards Tyler Kirkup, Ben Dalke and Kyle Salaway. Lastly, Team Belfour will consist of netminder Riley McVeigh and blueliner Tristen Cross.

Meanwhile, Oil Caps head coach and GM Troy Leslie will be the assistant coach for Team Garbutt.

“The MJHL is excited at this opportunity to work with the SJHL in this new event as it gives our players the chance to further showcase themselves in an elite environment to scouts and coaches from all levels,” stated Kevin Saurette, the director of operations of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League, in a release.

All games will be broadcast live online via Hockey TV.
