The Virden Oil Capitals are extremely proud to announce that Cole Slobodian of the Brandon U18 Wheat Kings has signed a letter of intent for the 2023-2024 season. Slobodian was the Oil Cap’s first-round pick (9th overall) in the 2022 MJHL Prospect Draft. The smooth-skating, play-making defenceman suited up in all 44 regular season games for the Wheat Kings and had 6 goals and 26 assists to help his team capture the regular season championship trophy in the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League. Slobodian’s 26 assists were good for 5th in team scoring and he played a big role in all situations for the Wheat Kings. He will be relied upon heavily as they try to go deep in the playoffs.
GM and Head Coach Tyson Ramsey was very excited to get his first-round pick locked up for next season, “We are so excited to officially welcome Cole and his family to the Oil Cap organization”, said Ramsey. “Cole is already an elite player and we feel he still has room to become even better. He is a great skater, with great vision who moves the puck and has the ability to join the rush at the right moments. He is a leader on his team, hardworking, and a great person off the ice. We feel he will fit right in here next season and become a big part of our D corps both offensively and defensively. We can’t wait to see what he and his Wheat King team can accomplish in the playoffs and then we are super excited to get him here and on the ice in Virden.”
