Tyson Ramsey, Named Oil Capitals Head Coach and GM

The Virden Oil Capitals Hockey Club of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL)  and the VOC Board of Directors are excited to announce the hiring of Tyson Ramsey as the organization’s new Head Coach and GM.

Ramsey, 42, was chosen within a distinguished list of potential candidates.  Ramsey’s pedigree of leadership, winning at every level, high character, work ethic, and consistency within the organization was something that the club ultimately was looking for.

Previously, Ramsey’s playing days included playing in the MJHL with the Winkler Flyers in the mid 90’s, losing in the finals twice, while being assistant captain for his last 2 seasons.  Ramsey played with Brandon University for 4 years, while captaining the team during his last season.  Ramsey’s coaching career took off with the Brandon Wheat Kings AAA Midget program; amassing 3 years as assistant and 4 years as Head Coach previous to coming to Virden for the 2018/19 season as assistant coach for the Oil Capitals.  While with the AAA Midget Wheat Kings, Ramsey lead the team to 2 finals appearances as Head Coach for the hockey club, while helping many young hockey players to the next level of hockey.  Ramsey was also head coach of the AAA bantam Wildcats female program and has been a scout for the Moose Jaw Warriors of the WHL.

Ramsey and his wife Tracy, daughters Emma and Avery, are relocating from Brandon to Virden over the next few months, and can’t wait to get integrated and involved with the community.

“I am extremely honoured and proud to be taking on the GM and Head Coach role of the Virden Oil Caps. I thoroughly enjoyed the previous 2 years with the hockey club first as a scout and then as assistant coach and I have the utmost respect for the organization and the all the people involved with it. I am really excited to help in the process of leading the Oil Caps to a championship.”

“My family and I are also extremely excited to begin the process of moving to the community of Virden. We feel very fortunate to be able to bring our family to such a progressive, hardworking and friendly community.  We look forward to meeting and getting to know all the community members and Oil Cap fans!!”

“Tyson is a great choice to lead our hockey club moving forward.  His passion for the game is second to none, and his character and integrity is something we really want our players to be surrounded by.  Tyson will be involved in and lead all areas of the hockey club both on and off the ice.  Tyson will be tasked with leading the hockey club over the next 3 years and hopefully beyond as we continue to reach for that allusive championship, all the while helping grow young men to the next phases of their careers, both on and off the ice.”  Virden Oil Capitals Board of Directors.

Further news with regards to Ramsey’s coaching team around him will be released in the coming days.
