OIL CAPS GET SET TO CELEBRATE 10TH SEASON IN OIL COUNTRY

The 2021-2022 Manitoba Junior Hockey League season will be the 10th for the Virden Oil Capitals since coming to Virden from Winnipeg in 2012.

The Oil Caps, formerly the Winnipeg Saints, have compiled a regular season record of 254-186-49 over the first 9 seasons in Virden and have made the playoffs every year except the inaugural season 2012 2013 and of course the Covid-19 cancelled season this past year.  The Oil Caps have made 1 trip to the league final, losing to the Steinbach Pistons in the 2017-2018.

Since the team’s inception in 2012, the Oil Capitals have boasted some of the MJHL’s best numbers in terms of season ticket holders, attendance, and marketing partners and receive tremendous support from the community of Virden and the surrounding area.

GM and Head Coach Tyson Ramsey expressed his gratitude when asked about the support the club receives here in Virden, “We are very, very proud to be a part of this amazing community here in Virden,” said Ramsey.  “We are at many times overwhelmed at the support we receive from season ticket holders, business partners, billets, and fans.  This community and surrounding area is full of hard working people and we expect our hockey team to take on those same values.  Our success on the ice is directly related to the support we get and we can’t wait to bring a championship to this community.  They deserve it.”

When asked about the significance of 10 years here in Virden, the Oil Capitals Board of Directors President Craig Davidson had this to say, “On behalf of the Oil Capitals Board of Directors we would like to congratulate the Oil Caps on their 10-year Anniversary!  It goes without saying that 10 years will bring many challenges along with many rewarding moments.  It is at times like this when you have a chance to reflect on what impact this team has had for the players that have worked through the program, the families and billet families that have formed lifelong relationships, the impact from partnerships formed in the greater community, to a sense of pride and unity that a team like this can bring to a greater community.  10 Years for any organization is a true milestone that takes tremendous commitment and dedication, and we thank all involved over the past ten, to allow the next ten to be even more rewarding! Here’s to the next 10!”

The organization has a few things planned for the coming season such as a commemorative 10th Anniversary logo and a third jersey representing 10 years that the Oil Caps hope to be wearing for their home opener on September 17th against the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.

Season tickets for the 10th Anniversary Season will go on sale this week.  See the Oil Caps social media pages and website for details.  You can also email marketing@oilcapshockey.com or call the Oil Caps office at 204-748-4848.
