Oil Caps Finish Pre-season With A Loss

The Oil Capitals wrapped up pre-season games last night at Swan River Centennial Arena against the Stampeders, with a tough 7-4 loss. Both teams failed to capitalize on the power play as the Caps went 0 for 4 and the Stampeders went 0 for 2.  

The Capitals got on the board early scoring at 3:34 in the first period making it 1-0; goal scored by Carter Cowlthorp from Tyler Kirkup and Jacob Cronin. Swan Valley didn’t waste any time following suit tying the game at one a piece at 5:14 in the first. The Caps scored their second goal of the game at 7:02 going ahead by one; goal scored by Tyler Kirkup from Dylan Cusmano and Carter Cowlthorp. In the last five minutes of play in the first period, the Stampeders tied things back up at two. 

In the second period the Caps once again got on the board first, taking the lead for the third time in the game, making it 3-2. Goal was at 10:03 in the second, scored by Tyler Kirkup from Dylan Cusmano. The Caps would stretch the lead to 2, scoring another goal at 14:26 in the second period. Goal was scored by Carter Cowlthorp from Tistin Cross and Jesse Korytko. Nearing the end of the second the Stampeders would find the back of the net at 17:41 in the period, 4-3 Capitals. 

In the third period, the Oil Caps couldn’t find the back of the net. The Stampeders took control of the third scoring four goals to take the lead and win the game, 7-4. 
The final shots on net 28 Caps, 37 Stampeders. 

The Caps went 2-3-0 in pre-season games this year; next game is the home opener Friday, September 23 against the Portage Terriers.
